They were awakened by the persistent barking of a small fox terrier, but not until the dog commenced howling did tlicy realise what was happening, and they got out of bed to find that the roof was blazing fiercely. They quickly escaped in their night attife, and only a few minutes later tlie building collapsed. The only thing saved was a suitcase belonging to Mrs. Gospomb's friend; who had arrived only last night to stay with licr.
It is anticipated that Mr. arid Mi's. Goscomb will be heavy losers. The stable which shelters the remainder .of Mr. Goscomb's horses, about 30' yards from tlie house, was untouched. - Mr. Goscomb had left yesterday for Te Rapa, where his horses Kind Words and True Blood are racing to-day. -', ' %
