MILK PROSECUTIONS
PURE SUPPLY NECESSARY. THREE VENDORS FINED. Three prosecutions were brought in the Police Court this morning hy Inspector Furness, of the Health Department, concerning the selling of milk. Barbara Forman pleaded guilty to a charge of selling milk which decolorised under a reductase test in eight minutes. Defendant explained that her milk supplier had informed her that he had kept the milk from -which the sample had been taken in the chiller for three days before supplying her. "It does not appear to be your fault in thia case," said the magistrate in imposing a fine of 10/ and costs. Milk Not Stirred. J Charged with a similar offence, and also with selling milk containing less than 3J per cent of milk fat, Bsrtha Scott pleaded guilty. The inspector said the milk went sour in 12 minutes when tested. It was low in fat, probably because it had not been stirred. Defendant obtained her milk from the same source as the previous defendant. Defendant explained that she had been in the dairy only three days, and was ignorant of the fact that the milk had to be stirred. "You have be careful when you are running a milk supply," said Mr. McKean in fining defendant 10/ and costs on the first charge and £1 on the Becond. . : 1 Added Water. Edward Sutton, who has a small round in Epsom, pleaded guilty to a charge of selling milk containing le3S than 8.5 of milk solids other than milt, fat and selling milk containing 12 per eent of added water. Sutton said he purchased milk from a milkman, who bought it from a farmer. "There was no incentive to me to add water, as I was buying four pints more than I was selling, and I was paying. 1/ per gallon for it when I could have got milk for 7d per gallon,' said Sutton. "I never added the water." In fining Sutton £2 and costs on each charge, the magistrate referred to the necessity of keeping • the milk supply pure.
