YOUNG WOMAN FINED.

GIN CAUSES TROUBLE. MAN TO BE PROSECUTED. "I am sure that if those people who take liquor to cabarets realised that they are liable to such a charge as this, it would act as a deterrent," said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, when a young -woman pleaded guilty to a summons charge of drinking liquor in a cabaret. Mr. Haigh appeared for the young woman. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that on April 22, the defendant and a man went to a cabaret, taking a bottle of gin with them. The fact that they had the gin was not known to the management. "Later in the evening," said Mr. McHugh, "the gin took effect on the couple and it led to a dispute, and the police were called into the matter." Mr. Haigh said that as soon as his client was approached, she frankly admitted the oftence. She had never been in trouble previously. "Is the man being prosecuted?" asked the magistrate. The clerk remarked that the summons had not yet been served upon him. Mr. McKean: I presume it was the man who took the gin to the cabaret. Detective-Sergeant McHugh: It is, hard to say which one took It. (Laughter.) "Your Worship's assumption fa eor-l-ect," said Mr. Haigh. "Well, for the moment, I will assume that he did take it," said the magistrate in fining the young woman 10/ and costs.
