FOUND ON PREMISES. ECHO OF SHOOTING CASE I WOMAN GIVES EVIDENCE. (By Telegraph.— Frcss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. An echo of the recent shooting ease at the residence of Mrs. Myrtle Long, Cashmere Hills, was heard before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day when Arthur Henry Way, aged 53 years, salesman, was charged with having been found without lawful excuse on the premises of Mrs. Long. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Special conditions were attached. Mrs. Long gave evidence to the effect that Way pestered and blackmailed her and that she shot him when he refused to go.
Myrtle Long was found guilty at her second trial of discharging a revolver at Arthur Henry Way, on March 2i>, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. She was ordered to pay the costs, £24, of the two trials, and to cuter into a recognisance of £100, to keep the peace and conic up if called upon within two years. Mr. Justice MacGregor said he- agreed with the recommendation to mercy made by the jury. In ordinary circumstances such a serious offence would call for a sentence of imprisonment for some years, but in view of the extraordinarily unique circumstances of this case, he did not intend to deprive the prisoner of her liberty.
