BLAZE AT MANGERE.
LIBRARY OF MUSIC LOST. A five-roomed house situated at Wallace Road, Mangere, owned and occupied by Mr. M. JSngel, was totally destroyed by lire last night, between eight and nine o'clock. At the time of the outbreak Mr. Engel was away, and Mrs. Engel, who was in the kitchen, noticed that the fire appeared to originate in the roof. She rushed to awaken her child in its cot, and then left the dwelling, which was well alight. As there was no water supply, neighbours were helpless to do anything to save the house. It was insured in the National Office for £075, which also covered the contents. Mr. Engel lost about £2000 worth of music and instruments, including an exceptionally lino library of mimic. All the music belonging to the Auckland German Club, which was stored in the house, was destroyed. The music had only been imported from Germany within recent month:].
The loss of the club's instruments and music will not mean the abandonment of the club's concert to-morrow evening. Various local clubs and organisations have come to the rescue.
