• Miss Nelle' Scanlan leaves by the Aorangi to-morrow for Sydney and Melbourne, and will return later to Wellington, sailing from there for London.

Miss Gwen Peacock (Auckland), who flew to Christchurch for the air pageant, has arrived in Wellington by aeroplane, and is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. D. C. Peacock, Rawhiti Terrace.

Mrs. Macarthy Reid, "Totara," Upper Hutt, and Mrs. Godfrey Wilson, Wellington, will leave in three weeks' time for a visit to Colombo and Ivandy. They expect to be away about two and a half months. . ,

Mrs. H.. S.. Robinson, who is wellknown in musical circles in Christchurch, especially at the Canterbury Women's Club, and who has spent the last 18 months at Indianapolis, United States, reached Auckland by the Aorangi today, and on arrival in Christchurch will stay with her mother, Mrs. T. Pole, Gloucester Street.

Miss E. E. Norris, of Natal,.is to join the staff of Marlborough College, Blenheim', at the commencement of' the new term. Miss Norris is visiting New Zealand under the system of exchange Of teachers with a view to broadening her experience. She will remain at Marlborough College for at least a term, and may continue until the end of the year.

A large crowd of mothers and children assembled on Queen's wharf just before midday on Friday to bid farewell to "Aunt Joan" (Miss Joan Laird),--the popular lady announcer, who sailed by the Wanganella for Sydney. Miss Laird was the recipient of many presentations and bouquets from her radio admirers, both email and grown up, and a happy half-hour was spent in the singing of songs which are favourites with small listeners to "Aunt Joan's" children's sessions. Miss Laird, who was in Auckland for some time, intends to continue her vocal studies at the Conservatorium of Music, either in Sydney or Melbourne, and at the conclusion of her training hopes to return once more to broadcasting in New Zealand.
