MANAGERS' REPORTS. Dawn of Hope.—Report for the -week ending May 6 :— Stoping on the hangingwall dropper of the Golden Age reef was continued. The country rook encasing this vein of quartz is of a softer character, and is not as good for carrying values as that previously worked, but an improvement is now showing in the back of the stope. Messrs. Robinson and Fraser have sent to the School Of Mines a load of general dirt and a little picked stone mined from the fOotwall dropper of the Golden Age reef. Golden Dawn. —The following is the mine report for the two weeks ending May 6: — No. 3 level; Drive north on No. 3 reef has been driven 34ft, total 334 ft. The reef here averages 12in wide, and the ore by assay is still of good value. The country rock hero is still of a good class for carrying gold-bearing reefs. Drive south on No. 3 reef has been driven 4ft, total 24ft, from south end of old stopes. The reef hern averages 12in wide and t.lie ore by assay is of fair value. Stoping has been carried on in three blocks on No. X reef, with machines working three shifts. The reef here averages 2ft 6in wide and the ore broken of very fair value. Stoping has also been carried on in three blocks on No. 3 reef, with machine working three shifts. The reef here averages 2ft wide and ore by assay is of very fair value. No. 2 level : Stoping has been carried on in one block on No. 1 reef. ~witli hand steel working three shifts. The reef here averages 2ft Cin wide and the ore of fair value. A start has been made to clean out from the surface low level driven by Farmer Brothers; this has been cleaned out for 100 ft. The level at present is broken down and will require a few sets of timbers. AUSTRALIAN PRICE OF GOLD. The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold, including jewellery, lodged at the Melbourne Mint, for the week ended April 28, was at the rate of approximately £6 17/6 a standard ounce (22 carats), equal to a premium of 76.60 per cent. Payment is made according to the assay value of the gold. The price was 4/2 higher on the week. The price an ounce fine was E7 10/, a rise of 4/6 on the week. The Commonwealth Bank's price for sovereigns at head office, Sydney, was 1/ higher at S4J6.
