LOCAL BODIES.
NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Newmarket Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, presiding. Mr. C. H. K. Mountain was re-elected deputy-Mayor. Fire Protection—lt was reported that the council's contribution to the Metropolitan Fire Board for the current year was £347, an increase of £117 on the amount levied for the previous year. Traffic. Control. —It was decided to ratify an agreement for control of traffic by the borough council and police jointly, the Police Department to supply one constable at a cost of £150 a year to the borough.
MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The newly-elected Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening, when the Mayor, Mr. T. McNab, was installed, and the new councillors were sworn in. . Mr. S. E. Chappell was appointed deputy-Mayor. Water Supply.—The Auckland City Council wrote in regard to water pressure in the area between View Road and the City boundary at Boston Road, stating that mains would be constructed to the city boundary from Mount Eden reservoir if the Mount Eden Council would continue the mains for the reticulation of the district. The matter was referred to the works committee. ' Dog Hospital,—A petition was received from a number of residents in Balmoral Road urging that steps be taken to remove a <log hospital which liad been established there. The matter was referred to a committee for a report. ■ /
ONE TREE HILL COUNCIL.
The One Tree Hill Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, presiding. Loan Conversion.—A recommendation by the town clerk that consideration of the question of converting the borough loans be deferred pending receipt of further advice expected from the Government, was adopted. It was pointed out that nothing was to be gained by hasty action.
Kerb Cutting.—On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to instruct the foreman to open up a second quarry with the object of securing stone for kerbs. It was resolved that as many men as possible should be put on the work immediately. Fire Board Levy.—The Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board advised that the council's contribution for the present financial year was £671 17/, payable quarterly. The levy is £171 17/8 over the old charge. Employment of Boys.—lt was decided to make a donation of £2 2/ towards the funds of the Auckland Boys' Employment Committee.
ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The installation of Mr. E. Morton as Mayor of Onehunga for a third consecutive term was performed last night by Mr. S- Vella, deputy-Mayor, whosaid that Mr. Morton's re-election conclusively proved the confidence of the ratepayers in liim. Mr. S. Vella was reappointed deputyMayor. The following committees were set up:— Streets, building, drainage and Workshop committee: Messrs. A. Tonkin (chairman), S. Vella, G. E. Haydon, F. Gilchrist, T. J., Pardington. Waterworks committee: Messrs- T. J. Pardington (chairman), J. Craig, G. E. Haydon, W. C. Bailey, S. Vella. Legal and finance: The Mayor (chairman), Messrs. A. Tonkin, S. Vella, M. J. Moore, A. A. Coates. Library: Messrs. A. Tonkin, S- Vella, J. Craig, T. J. Pardington, W. C. Bailey. Parks and reserves: Messrs.'M. J. Mciore (chairman), T. J. Pardington, A. C. Tonkin, F. Gilchrist, A. A. Coates. Purchasing: Messrs. S. Vella (chairman), T. J. Pardington, M. J. Moore, A, .0, Tonkin. Band: .Messrs. J. Craig, W. C. Bailey.
MOUNT ALBERT COUNCIL,
At the first meeting of the new Mount Albert Borough Council held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. W. F. Stilwell, congratulated Mr. B. Brigham on having completed ten years' service as a councillor, and Mr. J. H. Langley on having been reelected 14 years after he had first joined the council. Although Mr. Langley had not been continuously in office, he had been a member of the council for most of the 14 years. A motion of appreciation of the services of Mr J. Taylor, who did not seek reelection at the last poll, and Messrs. W. D. Fulton and ,F. A. Jarrett, who were defeated, was carried. Mr. Stilwell said that two difficult years were ahead, but if the new council wonted together as harmoniously as the previous one did, he was confident that all problems would be solved. On Mr. Stilwell s motion, Mr. R. E. Ferner was appointed deputy-Mayor. . „ . , The Mayoral honorarium was iixecl at £200.
