PROVINCIAL NEWS.

KUMEU. A social and dance was held oil Saturday evening in the Kumeu Hall,' under tlio auspices of the Kumeu District A. and H. Society, to wind up the society's activities for the year, and to present the cups and points certificates won at the recent show. The president, Mr. J. Winchester, welcomed the guests, and expressed his appreciation of the band of willing workers he had both on the general and ladies' committee, which had been responsible for the success of the show. Mr. W. Bishop, chairman of the Waitemata County Council, in making the presentations, congratulated the society 011 their financial success in these days of economic stress. Cups were received by the following: Jersey champion, Mrs. V. Mcllveen; champion hack, Taumata Investment Co; champion hunter. Miss P. Weston; and the Herbert Smith Relay Cup to Riverhead School, During the evening items were rendered by Miss Orrocks, violin solos; Miss E. Coughlan, songs; Mr. G. Willis, step dancing, and Mr. Ruslien, whistling solos. Supper was served by the ladies' committee. The hall was decorated with streamers of lycopodium and yellow chrysanthemums. During the evening a competition waltz was held, the winners being Miss Orrocks and Mr. Wallace Sinton. A pleasing feature of the social was the presentation of a clock to Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Kin lock, in recognition of years of faithful service to the show society.

THAMES. An enjoyable farewell bridge evening was held at the residence of Mrs. Arthur Price, Parawai, Thames, the other evening, in honour of Mrs. Blennerhassett who is leaving Thames shortly to take up her residence at Morrinsville, where Mr. Blennerhassett has been appointed manager of the Morrinsville branch of the Bank of New Zealand. The spacious rooms were artistically decorated with large bowls of dahlias, chrysanthemums, zinnias and autumn leaves. Early in the evening the guest of honour was presented with a Victorian posy made and handed to her by Mrs. W. Watson, and later was the recipient of a memento in the form of a black and white designed autograph sheet containing- the signatures of those present. While supper was being served by the committee, who had arranged the evening, Mesdames Price, Campbell, Steadman, Hetherington, J. Adams, Berry, Ferridav, and Garland, the hostess oil behalf of those present asked Mrs. Blennerhassett to accept a large crystal bowl and black morocco handbag, as a token of their esteem for her, for which Mrs. Blennerhassett returned her sincere thanks. Among those present were: Mesdames Liggins, sen., Pearse, Lockett, Gooder, Bush, W. Smith, Mackay, McCullougb, Bell, Liggins, A. S. Gray, S. Miller, Chapman, W. Watson, Hoult, Bongard. Henry, B. Clendon, Burgess, Fox, Hetherington, C. Poulgrain, McMillan, Fisher, Mellsop, Surman, J. Gray, Darling, Da vies, and the Misses Liela Price, Ansenne, Lilly Price, Reader, Kidd, Boles ,Maxted, Turner, Poulgrain and Campbell. The prizes for the bridge were won by Mrs. B. Clendon, Mrs. Lockett and Miss Liela Price.

ALBANY. A successful dance was held by the Fruitgrowers' Association, in the Coronation Hall, Albany, on Saturday last. Free buses were run from Takapuna, Northcotc, and Birkenhead to the hall. Supper arrangements were carried out by a ladies' committee, consisting of Mesdames Kenny and Mason, and Misses Potter and Dickson. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Miss I. Holmes and Mr. F. Blueher, and the statue waltz winners were Miss Riguey and Mr. Wilson. Among those present were: Mrs. W. Kenny, wearing white spun silk; Mrs. J. R. Jones, black floral georgette; Mrs. A. Mason, apricot taffeta; Mrs. G. Hawkins, wine satin; Mrs. T. Ingham, black and white marocain; Mrs. L. Bland, primroso taffeta; Miss M. Dickson, black crepe de chine; Miss H. Hooton, pink floral georgette; Miss E. Burrell, wine crepe de chine; Miss Thompson, bluo satin; Miss Osborne, black lace; Miss Drummond, Lido blue crepe de chine; Miss A. Le Roy, cream spun silk; Miss M. Summers, pale blue satin; Miss P. Williams, green georgette; Miss E. Williams, mauve taffeta; Miss D. McPliail, white satin; Miss J. Cross, pink satin; Miss N. Wilkins, black floral liinon; Miss E. Johnson, green organdie over satin; Miss N. Rigney, lemon taffeta; Miss J. Jones, blue taffeta; Miss E. Stitt, black satin beaute; Miss D. Stitt, black satin; Miss J. Taylor, electric blue spotted net; Miss J. Logie, lemon lace over satin; Miss S. Scales,; blue organdie; Miss C. Brown, flame satin; Miss J. Colson, black satin and lace; Miss J. Bawden, green satin; Miss B. Crombie, green georgette; Miss M. Bowker, white crushed velvet; Miss E. Neben, black chenille velvet; Miss A. Wilkins, white velvet; Miss I. Turnbull, blue crepe de chine; Miss T. Sole, blue satin; Miss D. Turnbull, cream silk.
