SHOCK IN STORE?
Rumoured Unpleasant Surprise For Dominions. PRESS SPECULATIONS. (United P.A.— Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, April 28. "The Sun" is informed that an unpleasant surprise awaits Australia ancl New Zealand in the Argentine treaty, which it is believed will include an assurance that if Britain imposes compulsory, as against the existing voluntary, restrictions on meat imports, the imposition will be equally upon foreigners and the Dominions.
This does not imply that compulsion is imminent, but if such a clause is included it will conflict with the Ottawa agreements.
The "Daily Telegraph" says it understands that the main points in the Anglo-Argentine agreement are as fol-lows:—-Argentine will float a loan of £10,000,000 in London for the purpose of releasing British deposits frozen in the Argentine as the result of exchange restrictions.
Secondly, there will be a reduction of Argentine duties on 280 items, including motor vehicles, agricultural machinery and textiles.
In return Argentine is to secure stable markets for her chilled and frozen meat, subject to the interests of the Dominions and the maintenance of price levels.
The agreement will be in operation for three years.
