PALMER STON N., this day.

Following a long discussion, representatives of the Hutt, Horowhenua, Manawatu, Oroua, Kairanga, Kiwitea and Poliangina local bodies concerning proposals for amalgamation for administrative purposes, a resolution was carried approving the broad principle of compulsory amalgamation of local authorities in the Dominion where such a course is proper and in the public interest. The meeting was representative of practically the whole area from the Rangitikei River to Wellington, on the western side of the province.
