STAMP COLLECTION.
, The valuable collection of stamps formed by the well-known Auckland philatelist, Mrs. J. Kenderdine, has been purchased by Mr. A. Brodie, collector and dealer, of Hellaby'e Buildings, Queen Street. The collection is especially rich in New Zealand first type stamps, among these "fullfaees" being such rarities as a pair of the first New Zealand stamp issued, the dull carmine penny printed in London, and a pair of the dull orange penny on star watermarked paper, known as No. 7. Each of these pieces is estimated to be worth several hundred pounds, while another rarity is a fine pair of the penny brown on N.Z. paper, catalogued at £150. In addition to the New Zealand stamps, the collection includes what is considered to be the finest and most complete display of Tongan stamps in existence, while it abounds also in Samoan, Cook Islands and other Pacific island rarities.
