GAOL BROKEN.
PRISONERS' ESCAPE.
TWO MEN OUT AT GISBORNE.
BURGLARY CHARGE SEQUEL.

GISBORNE, this day.
In the early hours this morning two. prisoners who were confined in the Gisbpruc gaol awaiting sentence and trial on several charges broke gaol and escaped. Subsequently it was discovered that a motor car had been stolen from a private garage.
The escapees are Norman Alfred O'Meara, aged 30, and Wilkin Eainsdon Avery, aged 25. The two men were recently arrested at Opotiki on a charge of assault and robbery under arms atjTokomaru Bay and they subsequently pleaded guilty to charges of burglary. O'meara and Avery were confined in separate cells. They succeeded in forcing out the centre bar of the window in each case and then prised off the lock of the door and walked out on to the beach.
It is believed tliat four liours elapsed before the escape was' discovered. All police throughout the district have hecn notified and a hunt for tht escapees is proceeding. .. Description of Escapees. The Auckland police have received descriptions of the escapees as follow: Norman Alfred O'Meara, ago .35, height sft sin,' medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue eyes, flat broken nose. Wilkin JRainsdon Avery, ago 24, height Oft sin, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, medium build. Both men were dressed similarly, each wearing a blue suit with light coloured felt hat and tan shoes. Tliey are suspected of being in possession of a Chevrolet motor car, registered number 43-501, a sedan with a winecoloured body and nickel bumpers.
