THE WHITE LILAC TREE.

■ (By Elsa Flavell. P.O. Boi 313, Hawera, age 16.) Oh, lilac tree, white lilac tree, What fascination haunteth thee? What spirit in thy perfume breathes, What music stirs anions thy leaves?

How earnest thou on this lonely plain, Unsheltered from the winter rain;

And from the summer sunshine's glare? How earnest thou, with thy flowers fair/

Enchantment thee pervades; it seems Thy flowers treasure lovely dreams; Thou hast a spell that chaineth me, What is it, oh, sweet lilac tree?
