PAPATOETOE AFFAIRS.
The Papatoetoe Town Board met on Thursday, the chairman, Mr. VV. J. Nicolson, presiding. A vote of sympathy was expressed to Mr. Nicholson in his recent bereavement through the lose of his eldest son. . Urban Farm Lands.—A list of properties in the Town Board area_ affected by the Urban Farm Lands Hating Act, with a total rateable value of £139,130, was referred to the finance committee for consideration before striking the current year's rate. Obsolete Tarring Plant. —Mr. H. O. Nolan reported that as firms supplying bituminous compounds were prepared _to deliver and apply the material on the job the board's tar boilers and sprayers had become obsolete. He pointed out that if sold the proceeds could be applied to the purchase of 4 two-ton motor truck. It was decided to call tenders for the sale of the tarring plant, and to obtain estimates of the running cost of a truck.^ Recreation Reserve. —Mr. J. Franklin reported that the relevelled portion of the Kolmar recreation reserve would have to consolidate before being used by winter sports 'bodies. The .board decided to level the school playing area for a temporary ground. Accounts. —The chairman, Mr. Nicholson, pointed out that, in the last fortnight, after paying accounts totalling £500, the board had managed to reduce the bank overdraft by £75. Great South Road Shoulders. —It was decided to fipply for the Main Highway Board's subsidy to carry out the work of tar sealing the shoulders on the Great South Road.
