LIABLE FOR LEVY.

AMERICAN'S POSITION,

with failing to pay the November instalment of his unemployment levy, a man who appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.. in the Police Court yesterday said he did not think lie was liable for the levy as he was an American citizen.

The Government inquiry officer, who prosecuted, said defendant had not paid any levies at all, and there was a sum of over £5 due. Mr. McKean, S.M.: How long have you been in New Zealand?— Eight years. Defendant said it was only recentlv that he was aware that he had to paythe lew.

He was fined £1 and costs,
