PRISONER RETURNS.
AFTER EIGHT DAYS' LIBERTY.

WELLINGTON, Friday
After eight days' liberty Eugene Charles Dominic McCarthy, aged 25, who escaped from tlie Waikune prison subeamp at Whisky Creek, 1C miles south of Turangi, with two other prisoners, gave himself up at Mount Crawford Gaol this afternoon.
McCarthy was serving a sentence of three years when he and two fellow prisoners made their escape last Friday. One of them, Vincent Barney Reardon, was recaptured two days later, in the bush in the vicinity of Waiouru, on the Main Trunk railway, but the third prisoner, Basil Hodgson, aged 26, is still at large. In making their escape the men smashed the lock of a: dormitory, threatened a warder, and then made off into rough country.
