STEADY DEMAND FOR OX BEEF
WESTFIELD WEEKLY SALE.
Owing to Anzac Day making it impossible for transport arrangements ■to be completed ia time for the weekly Westfield fat stock market, it was held this morning instead of Wednesday. Prime ox .beef ,was in steady demand and sold at full late rates, x xi,-:: :i Dalgety and Company, Limited, reports: At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day ox beef was yarded,in full average numbers, for which a. steady demand existed and values for prime qualities ruled equal to late rates. Plain and second qualities cattle did'not reach last week's level. Cow and heifer beef also came forward in average numbers and. here also values generally ruled at late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 20/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 17/ to 19/; just -killable ox, 14/ to 16/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 14/ to 17/; just killable, 9/ to 13/; heavy prime steers ranged in price from £6 5/ to £6 17/6; lighter, £5 10/ to £6 2/6; light, £4 to £5 7/6; small and unfinished, 37/6 to £3 10/; heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 5/6 to £4 10/; lighter, £3 5/ to £4; light. £3 10/ to £3 2/6; others, 30/ to £2 7/6. There was a ready demand for choice and prime quality, which was sold at late rates. Plain and unfinished cattle were dull of sale. Extra choice ox sold to 20/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 17/ to 19/; secondary and plain, 13/ to 16/; prime young cow and heifer .beef, 15/ to 19/; secondary, 10/ to 14/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 10/ to £8; heavy, £6 10/ to £7 7/6; lighter, £5 12/6 to £6 7/6; light, £4 10/ to £5 10/; small and unfinished, £3 to £4 7/6. Extra heavy prime young cows and heiferi, £5 to £5 10/; heavy, £4 to £4 15/; lighter, £3 to £3 17/6; light, £2 to £2 17/6; others, £1 to. £1 17/6.
Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd* l«H port:—We penned fat cattle to the number of 328, as against 208 head at last week's sale, comprising 209 steers and 119 cows and heifers. The demand was steady, and the values on a par with laet week.
