ADDRESSES BY CANDIDATES.
The meeting convened by the Birkdale Ratepayers' Association . in.. the Public Hall last evening was largely attended. Mr. ; J. W. Martin presided. Addresses were given by -the various candidates for the Borough Cotmciland Auckland Harbour Board. v. :. •'. ~
The Mayor,; Mr. George Mills, stated that water and drainage were essentials for Birkenhead. . Members of : the North Shore Water Board were coming over to Birkenhead to discuss' the Waikahikatoa scheme. If the proposal was taken up. by the Water B6ard work would be provided for.the local men at standard rates. After an adequate supply of water was ensured the> installation of a sewerage scheme, for the mdre populated portion of Birkenhead should be undertaken; ""-"•' ' "'
