N.Z. FREIGHTS.
BLUE STAR CO.'S OFFER
REDUCTION PROMISED.
MONTHLY SAILING REQUIRED.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
A cable has been received by the Newspaper Proprietors' Association that the Blue Star Line will make a reduction in freight rates of both refrigerated and other cargo provided they are assured of one Homeward loading a month. The Blue Star fleet is fully equal in personnel and equipment to what are known as the Conference lines, which at present handle the whole of New Zealand's oversea trade.
They have special experience in the carriage of chilled beef, a trade that is ill the experimental stage as far as this country is concerned. Their experience has been largely gained in trading with Brazil with 13,000-ton vessels, the best known of which are the Almeda Star, Avelona Star and Andalusia Star. One of the best known of liners engaged almost exclusively in cruises to the Mediterranean and Norway is the 15,000ton luxury liner Andora Star. The proposals will be put before the Dairy Control Board and the Meat Board by Mr. Harold Johnson, of Wellington.
