IN ROUGH COUNTRY.
ESCAPED PRISONERS.
POLICE AIDING IN SEARCH.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
TAIHAPE, this day.
Three warders from the Waikune prison camp arrived in Taihape this morning in the course of the search for the escaped prisoners. They left later with one of the local police, Constable McDonnell, for Karioi, about 20 miles north of Taihape. They intend to search in the direction of Mangamahu, and will link up with a posse of -Wanganui police, who have been working north.
Mangamahu Is on the Wangaehu River, about 30 to 40 miles north-west of Hunterville. The escapees are thus thought to be near the upper reaches of the Turakina and Wangaehu Rivers, in the rough country almost directly south of Ohakune and RaetihL
