WONDERFUL PRESENT.

The telescope used by Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, together with many other relics of the grfeat Admiral, arid a few souvenirs of Emma Lady Hamilton and Captain Thomas Hardy, were sold at Messrs. Christie's in December. They are to be presented to the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, by Mr. P. Malcolm Stewart. \ \ Mr. Stewart secured the telescope at 10/, in face of keen American competition. The telescope is inscribed, "To Horatio Nelson, .R.N., from E. (mma).L. (ady) H. familton), and T. (homas) M. (asterman) H. (ardy), 1803." In the Bridport 'sale in 1895, eleven medals and decorations worn by Nelson at Trafalgar brought £2500: They also are now'at Greenwich.

Other of Mr. Stewart'6 purchases last month included' two English silver watches, one engraved, "Presented to Captain. Horatio Nelson, R.N., on his marriage, by the crew of H.M.6. Boreas, March 11, 1787." The other is inscribed, "H.N. from C.C. (Admiral Collingwood), 1800." These fetched £399.

A small magnifying glass, a metal corkscrew, and a red leather 'di&patcli case, all used by Nelson, made £110 5/; and a series of 13 small objects given by Nelson to Lady Hamilton brought £241 10/.

A silver watch presented by Lady Hamilton and Hardy to Midshipman J. Pollard for "Service rendered during Trafalgar action, October 21, at 1.30," realised £141 15/. ■ Pollard shot at 1.30 p.m. the French sharpshooter who mortally ; wounded Nelson ten minutes earlier.

All these relics formerly belonged to Captain Thomas Masterman Hardy, the Admiral's great friend, and captain of the Victory. They were bequeathed by him to John Hardy, whose great-grand-daughter, the late Miss Pamela Hardy, of Eastbourne, sold them to the present vendor, who prefers to remain annoymous. Mr. Stewart's purchases amounted to £3292 IS/.
