ROXY AND TIVOLI. While the days of the open range and the two-gun killers passed out with the turn of the century, there is just as much excitement and adventure in the cattle country to-day. To prove the truth of this assertion, George O'Brien demonstrates that a cowboy's life in the modern West can be a thrilling one in "Smoke Lightning," his new vehicle, which is to open to-morrow at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres. Bristling with gun fights, a gaol-break, a poker game that ruins one of the players, a gripping duel across the car roofs'of a racing train and some of the most brilliant riding ever shown on the screen, this picture is scheduled to dispel any ideas that the West of to-day is tranquil. Taken from Zane Grey's novel, | "Canyon Walls," the story deals with the hectic experiences of a roving cowpuncher and his pal who decide to appoint themselves guardians of a little girl after the death of her father leaves her a wealthy orphan. Three of the screen's most popular young leading ladies share the feminine honours in the other picture on. both theatres' programme, "Three on a Match." The three young starlets are Ann Dvorak, Joan Blondell and Bette Davis. The former two have appeared to- ? ether in "The Crowd Roars" and "Love s a Racket," but this is the first time that three such outstanding feminine players have been cast together in the one film.
