WINTER RELIEF.
The Mount Eden branch of the Metropolitan Relief Association has held meetings lately to discuss the question of relief to be administered during the coming winter. It was reported-by the Mayor, Mr. T. McNab, that the gifts of money and goods from the residents have enabled the work to .be carried out thoroughly. Every case reported was visited, and in many medical and surgical assistance was arranged for. Warm clothing was distributed to all applicants while the stocks were available. Food had been and was still daily being given to many. Mr. McNab said that while m°ny had helped the committee, he. thought that special thanks were due to the bakers, who had given bread for the past nine months, and thereby enabled the workers to assist daily the most necessitous of the applicants. Thanks also were due to the churches, who organised a scheme of retiring collections and. supplied the committee with the necessary cash to purchase goods which many of the sick and needy had to have. It was decided to ask the residents of the borough to assist a "drive" for cash and goods on Saturday, April 29.
