WOMEN WALKERS. Grandmother Covers 20 Miles in Long Dress. ESTHER JAMES COLLAPSES. (United P.A.—BlectxlcTelegistpn-OopyiSglity (Received 12 noon.) SYDNEY, this day. Among the five to finish, out of 13 starters in a 20 miles road -walking race, was Mrs. Baxter, agefl 54, and a grandmother. Displaying amazing endurance she came fourth. Mrs. Baxter wore a long dress in contrast with the other competitors, who were attired in shorts. The winner was Miss Sayers, aged 19, of Earlwood. The time was four hours two minutes. Miss Esthei James, of New Zealand, who issued the challenge which culminated in the race being held, collapsed at Chullora. She was unconscious for several minutes, recovered and continued, then sprained an ankle and knee at Ashfield, and dropped out.
ROUGH WRESTLING. Referee Knocks Down a Competitor. THEN DISQUALIFIES HIM. SYDNEY, April 9. In a wrestling bout at the Leichhardt Stadium last evening Walter Browning met Bonnie Muir in a fierce encounter. Fists were largely in evidence in spite of the warnings of the referee, Mr. McMaster. In the fifth round Mr. McMaster knocked Browning down with a right swing to the jaw, disqualified him and proclaimed Muir the winner.
PROFESSIONAL GOLF. YOUNG SCOT'S [VICTORY. (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON", April 9. Dailey, a Scottish golfer, aged 24, jumped into fame at Halifax by winning in his first national (professional) championship. He led the field in the qualifying stage with 141, and "romped" through the match stages, after veteran Ted Kay had taken Dailey to the 22nd hole in the first round.
