NATIVE SCHOOLS.
MINISTERIAL INSPECTION. ..FUNDS FOR URGENT WORKS. With the object of inspecting a number of . native schools concerning which applications have been made for additional accommodation and replacements, the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Education, left this morning for North Auckland. Hie tour-is- expected to last a fortnight. The schools affected are administered by the 'Education Department, and not the Auckland' Education Board, and the Minister is' anxious to see the conditions under which they are working. He wishes also to meet the school commit l tees, although it will not be. possible to call at all the schools en route. It is the first comprehensive-tpur. the Minister has been able to niake since Ws assumption of the portfolio, of Education. It was emphasised by'Mr.'Masters hi an interview .yesterday that the shortage of funds for capital expenditure made it essential 1 to scrutinise closely every application. Personal • knowledge obtained on the Vpdit would assist him in'reaching a decision.'
