BOXING.
AUSTRALIANS IN THE SOUTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. A 15-round professional heavy-weight boxing contest between Ray Nicol (Ohai), l"st 61b, and George Singleton (Australia), 13st 51b, was staged last evening, and ended in the tenth round, Singleton being counted out The bout was not a very interesting one with Nicol holding the advantage in points. In the tenth round Nicol drove a right to Singleton's body, and as Nicol came over their heads met, the Australian going down to be counted out. Singleton was afterwards found to be suffering from a fracture of a bone in the front of the jaw, and he may not be able to enter the ring for Rome months. A preliminary 10-round professional bout between Billy Sullivan (Hastings) l'Jst Gib and Frank Dawson (Australia), 12st 31b' was won by Sullivan, the referee stopping the bout in the ninth round. The Australian at that stage was in a had way after taking heavy punishment in the preceding two rounds.
