TROTTING.
THE THAMES MEETING
OPENING OF COUNTRY CIRCUIT
TO-MORROW AT PARAWAI.
The Thames Trotting Club's meeting. which this year extends to two days, will bt opened to-morrow at Parawai and concluded on Saturday. This is one of the most popular of the country circuit fixtures, and as it sets the "smalls" in swing, the racing will provide more than usual interest. In all events the fields are well up to expectations and the best of the provincial horses are engaged. The club will operate both the win and place systems of betting, and additional tctalisator facilities have been provided. Below will be found a review of tomorrow's events.
Parawai Handicap. There are plenty of candidates to pick and choose from in the Parawai Handicap, the slow class trot, but betting is not likely to take a very wide range. Golden Eagle, who has only started once, and filled second place, should be a warm proposition, but Indolent may be equal to keeping J. T. Paul's trotter busy. Otara and Pearl Parrish are possibilities, and Autumn Lu should have a chance off 36yds. Stardown is on the improve. However, the chances are backers will be content to confine themselves to GOLDEN EAGLE INDOLENT OTARA. Hikutaia Handicap. Those in the Hikutaia Handicap, a 3.6 mile and a quarter, are not a very brilliant lot if their form to date is to be accepted. Cimarron is very speedy, but is also erratic, but should he go away right he should win. Home Brew, Jester, Lislea, Min Bells, Eree Gift, Our Summer, Roylette and Student Prince have all displayed speed at times. The race is very open, but as backers will have a flutter perhaps they will give consideration to LISLEA ROYLETTE CIMARRON. •'•'. Puriri Handicap. There are some smart pacers in the Puriri Handicap, a 3.33 mile and a half. Mazda and Wee Machine are good sorts to be on the limit, while on 12yds is the useful Francis Lincoln. Pukemiro has becu showing good form, and Jackie Thorpe, if at his best, would have to be considered. Silver Bingen reads the best of the others. Favouritism should be between FRANCIS LINCOLN MAZDA WEE MACHINE. The Cup. The Cup field has been reviewed previously. Carnui and Prince Pedro will tret solid support, and though it is some time since Prince Pedro had a race lie would only have to strip well to be the favourite. Carnui has done a solid preparation and will not fail on the score of condition. Kewpie's Triumph has only won once at two miles, and this was on the Parawai course. Brentlight, First Flight and Auto Machine are all well-known good paocrs. Summed up, the issue may be fined down to ' !
PRINCE PEDRO KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH CARNUI. Turua Handicap. The Turua Handicap, .a 3.42 mile and a half, should be one of the best races of the day, as there are a number of smart improvers engaged. Several are engaged in the Hikutaia Handicap earlier in the day, and their form in that race will throw some light upon their prospects in their second start. A trio whose form has been good are TE MAHANGA ' MAY CHENAULT RAIDER. Kerepeehi Handicap. Pegaway will be all the rage for the Kerepeehi Handicap and ho will touch a short price. He is on 36yds, and will be kept stepping to win, as there are other speedy horses in the race. These include Free Logan, Homeward, and Realty. Betting should favour
PEGAWAY FREE LOGAN REALTY. President's Trot. There are only half a dozen in the President's Trot, and Bessie Parrish reads jike a winner. Billy Carbine is solid, but not the best of stayers,' and Zanzibar is also a solid customer who doeß nothing wrong Moko Girl has been working well, but of late lias not raced up to her track efforts. Marble Star does not win out of his turn, and Explosion is a long way back. It looks like. ___ BESSIE PARRISH ZANZIBAR BILLY CARBINE. Kopu Handicap. All the best horses will step out in the fast mile and a quarter. ■ It is unlikelv those looking for the placed horses will go beyond GPEAT PARRISH KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH BRENTLIGHT.
