STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

AS WELL AS EVER. The aged sprinter Aston retains his form an wonderful manrrer, and is working as well as ever at Woodville. This Irish-bred gelding will be very hard to head off in the races he contests at the Pahiatua meeting next week. GALLOPED ON. Bay Tree had an easy few days between Trentham and Awapuni, due to being galloped on, unci he did not get a really good rousing gallop, one moderate splint being his only fast work prior to 1113 race on Thursday. In the circumstances he put up a good performance to run Lady Nan so close. DUE SOON. The Woodville hack Red Flush is steadily improving and should soon lose his maiden status. This Nigger Minstrel gelding comes of a good family, his dam Red Helen, being by the Stepniak horse All Red, from Bonnie Helen, by Bomform —Helen Portland. This is the same family as Reremoana, Lady Cavendish, Uncle Alex and True Blood. WILL BE GOOD. Catalogue is a two-year-old who is showing improvement with the advance of the season. His third to Lady Nan and Bay Tree at Awapuni was a good effort, especially as he got pinched on the rails in the straight. Catalogue, who is a halfbrother by Lord Quex to Paleta, should make a good horse next season, even if he does not finish the present season with a win.

RELATED TO AIRTIGHT. The Lucullus—Country Air filly in H. Rama's stable has had the name of LadyLucas bestowed on her. She has been in work for some time at Ellerslie, but has yet to race, though she has been nominated for the Whangarei meeting next month and may be given a run there. This filly is a three-year-old half-sister to Airtight, who won several jumping events for J. Fryer a few seasons ago. AN IMPROVED HORSE. Since racing at Paeroa Landlubber has done well and looks a much improved horse. He is also putting more dasb. into his work on the track, and his effort :u running half a mile on the tan at Ellerslie yesterday morning in 51 3-5s was a good one, which should assure him gel ting plenty of support for the AVhan-'invi meeting. This horse has never looked better than he is at present, and he may soon make amends for his failures at the Ohinemuri meeting. VANDYKE BACK AT ELLERSLIE. R. Porter, who has been absent from Ellerslie for some months, has returned with Vandyke, and will remain here for the rest of the season. This horse injured himsylf while contesting a hurdle race at the Waipa meeting last December and he was in a bad way for some time afterwards. However, he has made a good recovery and has done a fair amount of work on the beach at Takapuna. He is now looking well, and is in nice order to undergo a further preparation.

ENGAGED AT WHANGAREI. Taneriri, who has been awarded topweight in the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap at Whangarei, has not done much racing this season. However, recently he put up a creditable showing when he finished fourth in the Franklin Cup with 9.0. He has been kept in regular work since he raced later at Te Rapa, and an early improvement can be looked for. This horse is not too partial to hard going, and some of his pest performances have been registered on heavy tracks, and he should be well forward by the time the winter meetings come along. A PROMISING JUVENILE. King Mestor has settled down nicely since his arrival at Ellerslie and is thriving well on the work allotted to him. He has been sprinted on a couple of occasions recently, displaying all his customary speed, and R. S. Bagby should have him in first-class condition for the Easter meeting, where he has been entered for the Onslow and Victoria Handicaps. This juvenile won two races at the last Thames meeting and displays decided promise, but'he is still growing, and may not be seen at his best till next season. NOVICE HURDLERS. R. Lewis is giving his two novice jumpers Demylus and Solanio plenty of schooling, and both show promise. They were sent over six flights of hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday morning and cleared the obstacles in first-rate style for boginners. This pair are entered for jumping events at the Whangarei meeting, and their future prospects will be better gauged after they have had a race over hurdles. Demylus is the more forward cf the two, as ho has been racing throughout the season, but Solanio, prior to racing at Pukekohe. had had a long spell" since sporting silk, and in consequence may take longer to reach his best.
