WOMAN CHARGED.
ATTEMPTED MURDER. SHOTS FIRED AT MAN ? ALLEGED VICTIM RETICENT. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) CHRISTCHUECH, this day. Myrtle Long, aged 45, a domestic, was charged this morning with attempting to murder Arthur Henry Way on March 25. She was remanded until April 4, in the custody of the Salvation Army. Way, a commercial traveller, aged 53, appeared on a charge of being unlawfully on premises at 89, Hackthorne Road on March 27. He was remanded until April 4. The police alleged that five shote were fired at Way, and that Way refused to give any particulars other than that he was shot accidentally in the arm. The police said the woman was arrested last evening, "it was not the woman's fault Way was not fatally shot," added the chief detective. "She did her best to." He opposed bail. Counsel for the woman said ehe was quite well known and there was a good defence. Mr. Mosley, S.M.: I think it will be better if she is not allowed bail. The circumstances are peculiar. Regarding Way the police said he was admitted to hospital at 1.50 a.m. on Sunday with a shot wound in his arm. When interviewed, by a detective he refused to give any information. After his discharge he was eeen at the premises at Hackthorne Road and was finally located hiding behind a tree. There would be no objection to bail if he assisted the 2>o)iee. Bail of £200, and one surety of £200, was allowed, on the condition that he reported daily to the police and did not go to Hackthorne Road.
