BAN ON MAGAZINES.

NO BRITISH PUBUCATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The ban placed by the Customs Department on about 20 American magazines, on the ground that they contain undesirable advertisements, takes place from the beginning of next month. The Department does not o'bject to the magazines themselves and importers, ihave for some time met the official objection by cutting out the offending advertisements before sale, .but notice was recently given that if they were to be admitted to the country the doubtful advertisements must be deleted by the publishers in America. New Zealand importing firms got into touch with the publishers, who replied that they could not delete tihe advertisements, and as a result supplies have been cancelled. Included in the 20 publications, which will be affected are a numbere of film magazines, among which are "Photoplay," "Film Fun,"' "The Silver Screen," and "The Motion Picture. Magazine." Other periodicals which have been placed on the list include "True Love Stories," "True Story Magazine" and "Breezy Stories." Objection is taken to the advertisements only and not to the stories or general reading matter. Officers of the Customs Department have from timo to time been calling at the premises of the importers and inspecting the magazines to make sure that the unwanted advertisements .are being deleted. No British publications are affected.
