Exchange is charged or allowed on drafts or bills drawn in dollars in the same way as if drawn in English currency. Owing to the temporary closing of the banks in U.S.A. transfer operations with that country have been virtually suspended in the meantime. CUSTOMS EXCHANGE RATES. Rates of exchange ruling at the announced date of departure of the vessels named are shown in the following table.
