Neighbours and relatives were staggered at the news that a Manchester recluse, Mrs. Beresford, aged 82, had left £10,000, -divided among charity and friends, including. £100 to a flowerseller who, believing she was destitute, once gave Mrs. Beresford her last shilling. Mrs. Beresford's husband, apparently equally pool", died a few months.ago at the same hospital; The woman occasionally walked the streets of Manchester clad practically in rags, accepting pennies from pitying passersby.
