THEATRE FROCKING.

The dressing in "Captain Brassbound's Conversion," which opened its season to a packed house at His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday evening, is confined to the one woman artist in the cast, Dame Sybil Thorndike. For colour one must take the setting which represents a home in Morocco, the opening scene disclosing the garden of a missionary's house, with soft, graceful palms and bright scarlet climbing creepers. As Lady Cicely Waynflete, Dame Sybil mpkes her first appearance in a frock of dove grey delaine of the 1890 period, with turquoise blue straw hat, two pink roses, and a swathed lace veil hanging down the back. A long slender-handled mauve umbrella and grey handbag were carried. The second act displays colourful Moorish costumes worn by the men. In ' the third act, which is set in a sombre room of the missionary's house, Dame Sybil wears a charming gown of turquoise blue floral glace silk, patterned with cerise flowers. The wide cherry sash, arranged high at the waist, fell to the end of the fullfashioned skirt. iA sparkling red amber necklace completed the toilette. The Akarana Yacht Club's rooms were gay with interlaced streamers across the ceiling and summer flowers when the St. George's Rowing' Club gave their second dance of the season in the club's rooms on Saturday evening. A feature of the orchestra was the playing of some of the new slow waltz numbers. The ladies' committee who were responsible for the excellent supper provided were: Mesdames W. R. Woolhouse, A. C.
