FRIE DESTROYS HOUSE.

BLAZE NEAR MATAKANA,

WARKWORTH, this day,

Fire completely destroyed the sixroomed residence of Mr. J. D. Gray, formerly Under-Secretary for External Affairs, on the Warkworth-Matakana i-oad, early on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Gray have been living in Wellington for a year, and were due back at Matakana on February 1. In their absence the house has been occupied^by Mr. Gray, junior, who was away milking when the outbreak occurred. The cause of the fire is unknown. The house was insured for £700 in the National Office, and there was a New Zealand Insurance Company policy of £300 on the furniture.
