The weather was fine though dull this morning for the semi-final gallops at Ellerslie. ' The course proper, with the poles 35ft' out from the rails, was in most demand, and some good gallops were registered. The tan, No. 3 grass, two-year-old and hurdle tracks were also available. The going was perfect. The best efforts of the morning over a distance on the course proper were those of Cricket Bat, Silver Scorn, Antique, Red Sun and Tout le Mond, while the best sprints were recorded by Sunny Song, Grand Sport, The Quorn, Cadland and Psychologist. The two-year-olds that impressed most were Dole, Fracas, Red Manfred, Pelagia, Impasto and Gey Seton. The Course Proper. The first to work on the course proper ■was Silver Scorn (Eastwood), who was allotted a mile. She ran the first furlong in 13s, two in 24 2-ss, four in 50 2-os and completed the journey in 1.41 4-5. She went very evenly throughout and could have put up faster time. Supreme Ruler and Ruling King were timed to run five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. They went from almost a standing start, the former pleasing the better of the pair. Red Sun (Wiggins) and Berate (Eastwood) started off slowly over a round, being timed to run their last mile in 1.45 2-5. They did not have much pace on till they got to the seven-furlong post, and ran home from there in 1.31 1-5. Red Sun, who went particularly well, finished several lengths in front, but Berate could have been The' two-year-olds Dole and Pegged Exchange, after running their first furlong in 13 2-ss, and two in 255, completed five furlongs in 1.4. They both worked rvvell. The Cup candidates Fast Passage (Eastwood), and Concentrate (Emerson) were companions over a mile, running the distance in 1.47. They -were together for most of the way, but Fast Passage was drawing away at tlie flnis-h, though, neither were doing their best at the end. Antique (Parsons), Tout le Mond (Wiggins) and Gay Crest (E. Manson) were associated over a round, running the distance in 2.4 4-5. The last seven t00k.1.33 2-3, and the final half mile 52 4-ss. Antique finished in front, but Tout le Mond, who wa* a. length or two to the .bad half way down the straight, was closing on the leader when the poet was reached. Gay Or est also worked nicely. Marching Song and Wee Pat were timed to run tour furlongs in. 51 4-ss, finishing on terms. The best effort of the imorning over a mile was credited to Cricket Bat (Eastwood). He ran the .first two furlongs an 24 2-ss, four in 50s, and completed has task in .1.41 1-5, the final six iurlongs taking 1-16 4-5. Thin is one of the best gallops seen here for some time over this distance. Prince of Orange (H. Dulieu) completed a round in 2.11 1-5, his last seven, furlongs being covered in 136 3-5. He went very smoothly all the way, and fit was a good effort fo * a hurdle candidate." Sir VaJ and Court Haven finished on terms at the conclusion of seven furlongs, running the distance in 1 34. The Railway Handicap candidates Grand Sport and The Quorn got to the end of half a mile in 50s, the former having a ehade the ibetter of it at the finish* but The Quorn appeared to be doing it Billy. Boy and Demylus completed a round in 2.12 4^ 5, Ibeing agisted over the 'last five furlongs .by Birkley. Karangapat, goodweight, ran six furlongs in 1.18,2-5. _ .ne was finishing on at the end of .the gallop. Fracas (Eastwood) was sent five furlongß, beinjr timed to run the last half .mile in 49 4-Ss. This two-year-old displa-ys plenty of atpeod. Grand Revievr worked over s« furlongs, covering the distance in 1.23. The two-year-olds, Deimty Ruler and Glenronmey, were Given an easy five_rurlongs r SIJ covSrecl in 1.9 2-5. under a pull throughout. Princess was civen strong -nvric, but was not sent against the' watch. The Great Northern Foal Stakes candidate Red Manfred completed a. five-furlong task in 1.4. This juvenile has a very resolute style ot galloping, and was running on nicely at the end. . Great Star did strong work over a round, which occupied 2.20 1-& He was not doing his best at any part of it Cadland (L. Morns) reeled off half a mile in 50 2-se, doing hds work impressivelvi Pelagia jumped off at the halt mite poet, running firet furlong m 12 3-ss, and completing the distance in 495. She was kept up to her work. and had nothing in- reserve at the finish. Tahae Mea finished in front of Llanore, wnth Echo Song several lengths back, at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. lhe juveniles 'Epigram and Guarantee ran two furlongs in 2<5 1-Ss, and got to the end of five furlongs in 1-5 3-5, the former being a shade in front, at the end. VasefC Star hit out very fcreely ovfer fivefurlongs which he covered in 1.4 2-5. He could not .have done much better. Gay Seton finished on terms after sprinting three furlongs in 375. Both youngsters went freely. La Moderne was given a work-out over a round, but was not alter time. Moonfieet impressed morethan Blandford over five furlongs, the. first two being covered in 2155, Moonfieet being half a dozen lengths in front at this stage, Blandford was closing up at the/ finish. The full distance took 1.5. Gay Idea worked over seven furlongs, being timed to run the last ™ 1-5 Midian went over the same distance, doing it comfortably in 1.29. He looks in first-class order, and was anxious to go faster. Glenhaupo finished several lengths in front of Lady Winifrede after traversing five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. King s Knave was let off with an easy task, covering six furlongs at three-quarter pace. Sunny Sky, Merry Damon and Sunny Bachelor were companions over six furlongs, running the first three in 37 3-ss, and covering the full distance in 1.17 2-5. J. he final half-mile was run in 51 3;55. Sunny Sky, who had the outside running, pleased most. Arise and Diatamous ran home from the three-furlong post in 38 4-ss. After Breakfast. Psychologist registered a smart effort over five furlongs, running the first two in 25 l-ss, and finishing up in 1.3 2-5. Lordly Knight was allotted a sevenfurlong task, and after taking 41 l-5s for the first three, registered 1.33 3-5 for the distance. Over a similar journey Operatic beat Escalus by ei number of lengths in 1.34 3-5. On the Tan. The first to work on this track were the stablemates Jaloux and Azalea. The Cup candidate cantered round to the top of the straight, and completed the final round in 1.50 4-5. Azalea went with him over the last seven furlongs, which occupied 1.32 2-5, the final six furlongs being covered in 1.18 2-5. Jaloux beat his companion comfortably at the finish. This was a first-class effort. Broken Rule and. All Humbug ran five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the latter impressing most. United and Jewelled Girdle were _ together after traversing six furlongs in 1.23 3-5. similar time... Claremore anil Absent did useful work, being timed to run their final six furlongs in 1.26 .1-5. Schizanthus finished in front of Landlubber after running the last three furlongs of their work in 39 3-os. Black Songster was too good for Wee Musk after running his last 'five furlongs in 1.9. No. 3 Grass. Zane Grey covered six furlongs in 1.25 2-5, and Roman Mascot did a similar task in 1.20 2-5. Over the Hurdles. Blacksmith (A. McDonald) was sent over four schooling hurdles, giving a faildisplay, though he wae inclined to dwell a bit' at his fences. ..Oil the Sand. , Golden Wings .was allotted useful pace work on the san.l track. The Raihvay Handicap candidate looks, exceptionally well. G. 'Jones will ride him. Lack and Jayson also did serviceable tasks on the same track. Scratching. ' Gipsy Love has been scratched for all engagements at the Auckland summer meeting. SOME FAST SPRINTS. BY TAKANINI HORSES. TEA TRADER AND EXAGGERATION. Some brilliant sprints were recorded at Takanini this morning when both Exaggeration and Tea Trader set up new records for the track. The' inside grass, with the poles 6ft out, was in use and it was very fast.

Tea Trader (Walters) was first out and covered five furlongs brilliantly, running the distance in 1.0 2-5 without being kicked out. This colt has regularly recorded fast gallops, and his latest effort will probably have the effect of causing him to start favourite for the RailwayHandicap. Master Brierly (Gilmer) and Prolyxo (Moore) ran a mile in 1.40 3-5, and although the pace was not on all the way they did not seem to go quite as well as usual. Speedmint (Edwards) and Royal Artist (Walters) worked over eleven furlongs, the pace being clapped on at the mile, the pair coming home together in 1.43 4-5. Both went pleasingly. Gay Marigold (Moore) was doing better than Chief Joy (Bagby) at the conclusion of a mile in 1.44 4-5. -The former went very well and could have registered better time. Lorelle (Fearn) aud Gay Sheila (Walters) were associated over half a mile. The former went to the front after half a furlong had been covered and finished three lengths to the good in 49 4-ss. Lorelle is displaying plenty of speed, but Gay Sheila did. not hit out too well.

Exaggeration (Eastwood) and Greek Gold (Gilmer) began smartly at the sixfurlong post, and were still together passing the three-furlong peg, the time being 34 3-ss. They covered the full distance in 1.12 4-5, the former being a neck in front. Both are Railway Handicap candidates, and they will increase their circle of admirers as the result of this effort. Principal (Eastwood) and Imperial Prince (Jones) were sent nine furlongs, being picked up at the mile by Holly Lu (Gilmer), who lost a couple of lengths. Imperial Prince and Holly Lu finished together, two lengths in front of Principal, the last mile taking 1.44 1-5. Gold Pocket (Eastwood) was two lengths too good for Expectancy (Gilmer) over half a mile in 49 l-ss. Reviver (Wynd) ran the last five furlongs' of her work on the plough in 1.7 3-5. Alignment (Gilmer) gave the Potoa gelding and Lucullus filly six lengths start at the half-mile post, and was within two lengths of them at the finish ia 48'3-ss. Alignment should show up at Ellerslie.

Great Emblem (Gilmer), Pillow Fight (L. Manson) and Gold Train (Atkins), who was taken over from Ellerslie by J. Cameron, were sent away from the mile atid a quarter post. Great Emblem went to,the front, only to be joined by Pillow .'Fight after two furlongs had been covered, with Gold Trail,a length away. They ran tte first six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. and came home over the last half-mile in 545, making ,2.12 4-s'for the mile and a quarter. Pillow "Fight finished half a' length in front of 'Gold- Trail, who is ' stated not to be a good track worker. Great Emblem hung on'- surprisingly well, being only a length away at the finish. All went well.
