PETROL PROFITS.
INQUIRY IN AUSTRALIA.
CANBERRA, December 4.
The announcement that a Royal Commission is to inquire into petrol and oil profits is expected to result in the Cabinet's consideration of the Taxation Department's report on companies' operations.
One allegation is said to be that some companies derive a profit of 9d a gallon on petrol. The deputy-leader of the Country party stated in the House of Representatives that one company had escaped taxation to the extent of £360,000 over a period of years.
