FULL ALLOCATION.
WANTED AT WHANGAREI. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. A deputation, from the Whangarei Relief Committee Workers' Association waited upon the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night.
The leader, Mr. A. G. Magce, said that the position was becoming desperate locally. Not once in the past six months had the Whangarei district received its full allocation, although the need was the same here as elsewhere. Mr. A. G. Langdon suggested that a petition, asking for the full allocations, be signed first by the Chamber of Commerce and then circulated among businessmen. The presentation of a similar petition from Otahuhu had resulted in the restoration of the allocation in that locality.
Mr. Langdon continued:—"The local committee is a !arce. It has no standard other than it is necessary for it to exist. All its decisions are subject to the veto of the certifying officer." Another member of thei, deputation said that last week the allocation had teen cut to 22/6 a week for a married man with two children, and 32/6 for those with more than two- children, and ;this before a stand-down week. i Mr. J. A. Finlayson: Whangarei men are as entitled to the full rations as those anywhere else in New Zealand. Mr. J. S. Brigham.: Whangarei unemployed are not receiving their just share of the money we are contributing for relief, and .our levies are going- to Support families elsewhere. A committee comprising Messrs. D. K Ross, J. A. Finlayson and G'. S. B. Morrison was set up to act with, principal (executive officers to take immediate action on behalf of the local unemployed #nd their dependents. . •
