HARBOUR BRIDGE COMPANY.

s SPLIT IN DIRECTORATE. LOCAL BODY MEMBERS EXCLUDED. "The position is now farcical," eaid Mr. A. W. Christmas, at a meeting of the Northcote Borough. Council last night, referring to what he called "an attempt to exclude the local body members on the directorate of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Company from business done." Mr. Christmas, who is the representative of the council on the directorate of the company, said he wished to tender his resignation. An executive committee had been formed, he said, comprising only elected directors, and the opposition of the three local body members was unavailing against the nine elected directors. Comparatively wide powers had been given to the committee, though, the authority of the full board would be needed on any really vital matter. The local body members would be eimply invited to come along and hear what had been done. "The excuse offered for the omiseion of a local body member from the committee is that he would not be able to spar a the time to devote to the affaire of the company," eaid Mr. Christmas. "We have been carefully excluded." The Mayor, Mr. Martin: It is a studied insult. While the local body members had no wish to stifle the proposal for the bridge, eaid Mr. Christmas, some of the ideas put forward by the other directors had been merely absurd, and no person with any inkling of business knowledge could have supported them. Everyone knew that there had been dissension among the directors. . The council decided to approach the other interested local bodies, the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Harbour Board, with regard to future action. In the meantime Mr. Christmas consented to withhold his resignation.
