FARMING FOR BOYS.
SAVINGS BANK EFFORTS.
TESTING THE DEMAND.
CALL FOR CANDIDATES,
In view of the difficulty- apparently experienced by some organisations jj securing boys for training in farming, the trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank have decided to make further investigations before launching their scheme for training and putting unemployed boys on the land.
In addition to giving £10,000 to the Bryant scheme for settling unemployed men, the trustees of the bank last August voted £2000 for a suitable block of land and announced their intention of spending £20.000, spread over % period of five years, on land development and the training and settling of boys on the land.
Several organisations that have schemes for inducing boys to take np the land as a livelihood have been experiencing difficulty in getting candidates for training, although facilities have been offered. In the face of that fact the trustees have decided to call for applications from boys desirous of taking up farming as an occupation, and future action will depend on ti'ie result of the call. Forms of application may be obtained at, the bank, and after the closing date the trustees will reconsider the whole matter.
