PARLIAMENT'S WORK.
PRIVATE MEMBERS' BILLS. DEBATE ON CURRENCY. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Private' members' bills had a final flutter in the House yesterday, and two measures considered found their way to the legislative shambles. Although given a second reading as an act of courtesy, Mr. Wilkinson's Copper Coinage Bill was struck off the Order Paper because it involved an appropriation, and Mr. McCombs' second bill to amend the arbitration law was again unsuccessful, the second reading being defeated by 41 votes to 24. Mr. Eraser's Shops and Offices Amendment Bill was read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Labour Bills Committee. The evening sitting was devoted to a long academic discussion of currency questions on the second reading of Mr. Mason's measure on that subject. The debate was adjourned.
