Majority Over Hoover At Close Of "Straw" Vote. "LITERARY DIGEST" POLL. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, November 3. The final return in the "Literary Digest" straw vote on the Presidential election is announced as follows :— Roosevelt 1,715,789 Hoover 1,150,398 Thomas (Socialist) . 148,079 There were 3,064,497 ballots. Hoover leads in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey, but his electoral vote would only be 57 against 474 for Roosevelt, who leads in 41 other States.
