A truck driver named Jock Lindsay received very severe burns on the face and on the arms while engaged in filling the petrol tank of a cream lorry at the Opotiki butter factory. The cause of the fire is not known. When the flames broke out Mr. Lindsay pluckily jumped into the lorry, which was a valuable new six-wheeler owned by Mr. Ruff, cream contractor, of Nukuhou, and backed the truck away from the bowser.

After receiving attention the injured man was immediately conveyed to the Opotiki Public Hospital.
