WORKERS' CONFERENCE.

All. AUCKLAND UNIONS. TO DISCUSS WAGE REDUCTIONS. The Auckland Joint Council, which consists of unions affiliated to the Trades and Labour Council and the Alliance of Labour, has convened a conference for to-morrow and Friday of this week. All unions in the Auckland district have been invited to send two delegates, and the purpose of the conference is declared to be to discuss ways and means of staying the wage-reducing policy of . the employers, and also to discuss a plan of cohesion which will be effective in meeting the radical proposals as put forward by the Employers' Federation from time to time. The conveners of the. conference say that the present wages and conditions have only been gained after close on 40 years of organisation, and unless something is done it would seem that these benefits are going to disappear. The conference will also discuss the present situation of the unemployed. It is expected that the findings of the conference will be presented to the Parliamentary Labour party, with a view to the report being presented to the Government. - ! "Out of about 20 disputes in the Auckland district," says the council, "only about four have been settled, and two out of the four were settled under protest. We feel that there will be a cumulative effect in the near future unless something is done to nullify the estrangement at present existing between employers and workers."
