NEW NAPIER HOTEL.

REASON'S FOR REBUILDING. DISTRICT MEMBER'S STATEMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Tuesday. The Unemployment Committee approved: a statement made by Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., in the. House of Representatives in: respect of the dealings between the Unemployment Board and the Masonic Hotel Company, after hearing Mr. Barnard's explanation on the following lines: — ' (1) The Masonic Hotel held the key position in the rehabilitation of Hastings Street, and had it not been rebuilt, many property-owners in that area would not have rebuilt; (2) the whole of the labour had been employed through the local Labour Department and that had a distinct bearing on the employment .of local men; (3) the town benefited from the spending of wages earned during rebuilding; (4) a staff of approximately 100 men had been employed during the rebuilding and a permanent staff of approximately 70 would be required to maintain the hotel..
