"ON OUR SELECTION." Joke competition.—The prize for to-day's "On Our Selection" joke goes to M. Smith. Box 13, Papakura, lor the following:— Dave: (triumphantly): I've bought home a pig. Mum: But we've nowhere to keep it. Dad: We can keep it in the house. Mum: But what about the smell? Dad: Oh, it will soon get used to that. PLAZA THEATRE. Now in its third week at the Plaza Theatre "Sunshine Susie" is going every bit as strong as during its opening week and provides the very best of entertainment. It is recognised as a Gainsborough triumph, the best comedy to come from a British studio and a more sparkling and joyous film it would be almost impossible to find. From start to finish it scintillates with the merriest of wit ami happiest of songs: it is captivating with its simple but delicious story. The-theme soij£. "To-day 1 Feel So Happy," is contagious and makes one almost stand up and join in the chorus. The cast is responsible for introducing Jack Hulbert, a clever eccentric dancer and a witty patter comedian. "Sunshine Susie" will continue to hold the boards at the Plaza and nobody who appreciates an outstanding picture can afford to miss seeing it. MUNICIPAL CHOIR CONCERT. Despite the adverse weather conditions there was a most encouragin'g attendance at the Town Hall on Saturday evening, to hear the second concert presented by the Municipal Choir this season, under Mr. E. Varley Hudson. There was a noticeable improvement in the work of the choristers, who observed a nice regard for light and shade in their singing of a fine selection of well-contrasted part-songs. A word of praise is due to the conductor for his artistic readings of the various numbers, and also the choice of works, which were both unhackneyed and pleasing to the car. Mr. Frank Sutherland was.recalled for ius singing of his baritone ballads, |id the same compliment was paid to Dr. Trevor de Clive Lowe, who was most successful with his 'cello solos. Mr. Arthur E. Wilson's organ numbers proved to be very popular with the audience, and he, too, was recalled to play additional items. The accompanists were Mrs. V. R. Roach, who played for the choir and Mr. Frank Sutherland, and Mr. Harry Luscombe. who acted in a similar capacity for the 'cellist. MUNICIPAL BAND. Although the weather was somewhat unsettled last night an appreciative audience greeted the Municipal Band at Albert Park. The operatic selections from "Lucia di Laminernioor," "Carmen," and "The Barber of Seville," were excellently rendered. The lighter portion of the programme, including marches, hymns and solos were also much enjoyed. A fine programme was also given at the Zoological Park on Sunday afternoon. NEVILLE CARLSEN CONCERT. Organised by the Neville Carlscn Revue Company, a very successful concert was held at the Delta Theatre, when the sum of £10 was raised to provide a Christmas picnic for the children of the New Lynn unemployed. The services of the artists, comprising a cast of over 30, together with transport and printing, were provided free of charge. The following took part: — Mesdames V. Paskell, J. Holt, Misses Dorothy Lawson. Gladys and Joyce Cain, B. McLoughlin, Daphne Lockwood, Zelda Pike, Eileen Smithson, Linda Burgess, Joy Watts, Joan Tucker, Xelda Ashdown, Jessie Boyd. June Breere. Joyce Trainer, Willa Katterns, A. Searle, Messrs. F. R. Shaw. Fred Appleton, Will Audain, Joseph A. Smithson, Jack Pratt, Ken Smith, A. Court. Ernest Parkinson. Wilfred Baker, Neville Carlsen, Master Maurice Stitt, Master Willie Saul. Master Albert Parkinson. The accompanists were Mrs. J. Holt. Miss Willa Katterns and Pipe-Major MeComb.
