TROTTING.

AUCKLAND MEETING. OPENS TO-MORROW. GOOD SPORT - PROMISED. REVIEW OF FIELDS. Given favourable weather conditions tomorrow for the opening of the spring meeting the Auckland Trotting Club should be in a position to supply an excellent programme of trotting and pacing to followers of the light-harness sport. The meeting will be concluded on Monday (Labour Day), when a similar bill of fare will be offered. The fields for to-morrow will be satisfactory in all eight events, and with recent form to guide them backers will probably be prepared to take short prices about certain candidates. With Mr. J. Rowe (president) at the helm and Mr. A. G. Mabee (secretary) on hand to see that all arrangements are attended to, the smooth working of the meeting is assured. Below will be found a review; of the card. Waitemata Handicap. Nine have been paid up for in the Waitemata Trot, but Nell Volo will be the only one backers will support with any confidence. Her win at the Waikato meeting was accomplished rather easily, and though she is liable to go to a break at the start she should have no difficulty in winning. Autumn Lu, Manna's Son and Waskasu are promising sorts on the limit, while Win Huon is a solid plodder. Mattie Herbilwyn is not reliable, and Moko Girl, while a class above the others, is a long way back on 144 yds. It is difficult to go outside NELL VOLO MANNA'S SON WASKASU. Improvers' Handicap. J There will be a good field in the 3.6 mile and a quarter, and on a dry track many of the horses would knock several seconds off their handicap. All but three of the 15 are on the limit, and the winner should coine from the front. Cogent, though not too reliable at the barrier, went a good race at Hamilton a fortnight ago and may prove a good outsider. C'niarron went a couple of good races at the Wellington meeting, and, being a good beginner, will be hard to beat. Pedlar failed in two races at Hamilton, but will do better to-morrow, and Stormy Mack cannot be left out of calculations. Mountain Sun and Nellota are promising novices. Fisher is unreliable at the start, but Mazda has been working well, and Raider won a race at Wellington. It is not an easy problem for backers, but they may decide between PEDLAR CIMARRON STORMY MACK.

I Jellicoe Handicap. All nine acceptors will line up for the Jellicoe Handicap, the chief event of the clay. Arabond and Carnui are on the front, and Arabond may be the better proposition. l)an Direct has been out of form for some time, but Direct Morning, who ivon a double at Hamilton, should be the hard horse to beat. Anon has not raced consistently well, and First Plight, when right, is particularly good. Her failure at Hamilton was excused. Kewpie's Triumph is again "working well and will go a solid race, while Pageant is a good sort, and the class will suit him. Peter Pirate is in good form at present, and, though back on 84yds, must have a good chance. Ihe favourites may be DIRECT MORNING ARABOND PAGEANT. Parnell Handicap. There will not be a big field in the Par--11 ell Handicap, a 3.37 mile and a half* Guid Hairst is the only one on the limit, and he will see a short price. Margaret Wallace and Prince Etawah are just ordinary, but Realty is a fine stayer and a strong finisher. Homeward will go well, and so also should Cleao and Pukemiro, as all three are in form. However, those most considered may be GUID HAIRST REALTY HOMEWARD. Mountain Handicap. This looks the most open race of the day and several appear to have excellent prospects. Billy Carbine may be the best of the four on the limit, while nicely placed are Moko Bells and El Merit on 12yds. El Merit won well at Hamilton and is an improved trotter. Moko Girl (24yds) has been working in her best style and she must be very hard to beat. Parrish Belle, on the same mark, has backers puzzled, and she has been somewhat of a disappointment. Windchat may be the best of those further back, but horses on or near the front will be preferred, and those best supported are likely to be MOKO BELLS EL MERIT MOKO GIRL. October Handicap. The October Handicap, a 3.40 class mile and a half, has some smart improvers engaged. Fisher and Pedlar will have raced earlier in the day, and their chance depends upon how they raced in their first outing. Historian may be a useful sort and Sister Chris would probably go a failrace if she could be depended upon to leave the mark correctly. Wee Machine and Betterwin are the pair with the best form, and when backers get busy they will confine their attention to WEE MACHINE BETTERWIN . HISTORIAN. Electric Handicap. Little Guy will be tho strong fancy in the Electric Handicap, in which he is on the limit, and he should be hard to head off. Brent Zolock and Brentlight can each go a fast mile and a 'quarter, and Brentlight, being coupled with Real Girl, the bracket should get support. Anon is speedy, and Te Wahia may be capable of bringing off a surprise. Kewpie's Triumph and Kewpie's Guy are good sorts at ten

furlongs, and Pageant's prospects depend upon how he shapes in the big race. Summed up, the three with best prospects appear to be LITTLE GUY BRENTLIGHT—REAL GIRL BRACKET KEWPIE'S TRIUMPH. Stewards' Handicap. The concluding event is the Stewards' Handicap, a 2.57 mile and a quarter. Francis Lincoln and Homeward are fair sorts to be on the front, and Cleao, if she would gather up speed quickly, would be dangerous. Nathaniel has. been working well and Pukemiro showed winning form at Hamilton. Lady Coronado and Rolfe Audubon read best of the others. There should be good money for HOMEWARD FRANCIS LINCOLN NATHANIEL. The acceptances are:— 12.0—WAITEMATA HANDICAP (Trotters) of lOosovs. One mile and a half. Limit 3.45. Autumn Lu . . Lt. yds bhd. With the track at Epsom to-morrow certain to be on the heavy side, even though the weather be fine, there is the (possibility that form will not work out so well as backers desire. However, the conditions will be the same for all, and those backers who do not care what a horse pays may be prepared to put their cash on Waitemata Handicap: Nell Volo. October Handicap: Wee Machine. Parnell Handicap: Guid Hairst. LATEST ARRIVALS. The only horses worked on the cinders this morning were Lady Coronado and Hue Coronado.- Both look well, but they were not asked to make time. A. McMillan has arrived with Te Wahia, Lislea and Lady Amanda, all of whom are engaged to-morrow. McMillan also brought down the maiden pacer Adjutant, whom he is returning to his owner. Direct Morning, looking a picture, was given light exercise, and another pottering about was Brent Zolock. J. J. Kennerley put in an appearance with Brentlight and E. N. Kennerley arrived with Peter Pirate and Real Girl. Peter Pirate is in great order.
