LAWN TENNIS.
WAIATA CLUB. At the Waiata Tennis Club, at Bpsom, the courts were declared opened by Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., the first ball being played by Mrs. Jordan. The president, Mr. E\ Ward, welcomed the visitors and outlined the activities of the club during the past year. Since the first meeting, just over twelve months ago, the club had laid down four chip court*, built a pavilion and volley board, the total cost of which was in the region of £400, all of which had been paid for, and still left a very nleasing -bank balance. There were also present the chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. McCuliough, Mrs. McCullough, and members of the Road Board. Mr. McCullough congratulated the club on its progress, and expressed appreciation of the businesslike manner in which the work had been undertaken. A tournament was held during the afternoon, over 100 players entering. The successful players were : Ladies, Mrs. Boswell; men, Mr. Craig. TIRO TIRO CLUB. The Tiro Tiro Lawn Tennis Club (Grey Lynn) held its official opening before a good attendance of members. The president and captain, Mr. E. J. Sexton, referred to the club's success in the competitions of the previous season. The club would this season take part in the Auckland minor clubs' competitions. After Mrs. Sexton had delivered the first ball, a progressive tournament was held, the winners being Mrs. Norton and Mr. Grant.
