TWO GREAT BRIDGES.
Big Danish Contract for British Firm. RIVER SEVERN TO BE SPANNED. RUGBY, October 7. According to an announcement by the Danish Ministry of Public Works negotiations regarding the erection of a great bridge over the River Stor. were advanced greatly during a visit of Mr. Mitchell, chairman of Dorman, Long and Company, Limited. With only minor alterations the plans for the bridge submitted by Dorman, Long and Company, and the prices for the various sections of the work, which involves a £2,000,000 contract, have been accepted. The construction will be begun at an early date. The bridge will be one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Plans have been completed for a bridge across the-River Severn, at Newtham, where it narrows to a width of 400 yards. The scheme, which is estimated to cost £250,000, is being financed privately and only awaits the sanction of the appropriate authorities. The structure will be 1410 feet long and will be carried on 32 piers. It will represent a saving of 32 miles for traffic from England to South Wales.
