SAMOAN EXPENDITURE.
When Mr. Hall Skelton was lecturing around Auckland four or five year§ ago on Samoa he gave a very clear statement of the costs of administration since New Zealand took over Samoa. He pointed out the growing expenditures and stated in my presence that the greatest income from all sources could not possibly meet these stupendous costs and would result in the baqkruj)tcy of Samoa or the New Zealand taxpayers must foot the hill. The Economy Commission has proved this gentleman's statements quite correct. How many hundreds of thousands will we poor taxpayers have to pay, I wonder, to keep Samoa going? EDWARD H. SUTHERLAND;
